As a Backbone Network Planner, you will be responsible for overseeing the planning and development of Amazon's physical network infrastructure. Your expertise will encompass planning and designing physical network infrastructure (including dark fiber, colocation, and ISP cabling), optical transport technologies, and backbone network engineering design principles. Additionally, you will possess comprehensive market knowledge of network infrastructure providers in your region.
This role demands extensive collaboration and the ability to drive strategic planning initiatives. You will be tasked with designing high-availability solutions at scale and delivering precise documentation. Your primary responsibility will be to actively develop and implement backbone infrastructure solutions within your designated region. This involves working closely with Infrastructure Technical Business Developers, suppliers, technology partners, and various Amazon networking teams to meet our customers evolving demands.
Key job responsibilities
Act as the Asia-Pacific (APAC) regional Subject Matter Expert (SME) on topology change management and infrastructure demand planning.
Collaboratively develop network infrastructure execution plans in partnership with Business Developers, involving leased wavelengths, dark fiber, and submarine cable capacity/builds.
Develop strategic regional backbone network plans for approval by internal customers and stakeholders, focusing on short-, medium-, and long-term needs.
Work with network engineering to ensure the highest degree of design consistency, network efficiency, cost optimization, and long-term scalability of the backbone network is delivered. Compile topology information and performance metrics, and make recommendations for improvements based on findings.
Manage network changes (migrations) as our network evolves to support increased traffic volumes and geographic expansion.
Translate backbone and edge forecasts into actionable network infrastructure projects.
Own your region's network availability and performance, and develop remediation plans to address non-compliance.
